To provide free, compassionate mental health resources and support to individuals and families across Northeast Florida — with a particular commitment to perinatal mental health, underserved communities, and families enrolled in Healthy Start programs.
Our story
Across Northeast Florida, families were being screened for depression and anxiety and then handed a phone number and a months-long wait. The WellMind Foundation was created to be what comes next.
The foundation grew out of frontline perinatal and psychiatric practice in Jacksonville, where clinicians and home visitors kept meeting the same problem: mothers and fathers who had been identified as needing help, but who faced cost, transportation, language, stigma, or insurance barriers before they could reach a provider. Screening alone was not changing outcomes.
Today WellMind operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a two-part model. Free community programs — screenings, peer support, children's wellness curricula, and family training — are delivered at sites families already visit. Behind those programs sits a warm referral pathway to licensed, Medicaid-accepting care, including our clinical partner The Well In You Psychiatric Group, PC.
What guides us
No cost, no insurance requirement, no income test, and no documentation check. If a family in Northeast Florida needs support, they qualify.
Every person is met as a whole human being, not a diagnosis. We use person-first language and follow safe messaging guidelines in every program and publication.
Peer support specialists with their own recovery journeys lead our groups, because being understood is often the first step toward getting well.
We build on the organizations families already trust — Healthy Start, the Magnolia Project, Head Start centers, schools, and faith communities.
Programs are delivered in English and Spanish and shaped with the communities they serve, with particular attention to disparities in maternal and infant health.
Screenings use validated tools, and clinical care is delivered only by our licensed psychiatric partner — never by this website.

Jacksonville — Magnolia Project & Healthy Start sites
Our largest service footprint, with weekly peer support groups, perinatal screenings, and children's programs hosted in partnership with the Magnolia Project and Head Start centers.
Orange Park & Green Cove Springs community sites
Monthly workshops and biweekly peer support hosted at Healthy Start partner sites and local churches, with telehealth navigation for families who cannot travel.
Yulee & Fernandina Beach outreach
Outreach-first county. Screenings and family training are delivered at Healthy Start home visits and community partner locations.
St. Augustine & Hastings community partners
Peer support and youth programming delivered with school district and faith community partners, plus statewide telehealth navigation.
Palatka & rural Putnam outreach
Rural-access county. Most support is delivered by phone, telehealth, and traveling community workshops so distance is never a barrier.
